This summer, Aiphabet ran a two-day online AI bootcamp that taught high school students the foundations of AI. The free program was led by the core Aiphabet team Ansaf Salleb-Aouissi, Uzay Macar, Blake Castleman, and Parmida Shariat.
About 40 students joined the bootcamp to learn what AI is, how it works, why it matters, and the ethics behind it. They tried out real AI tools like Google Colab, Teachable Machine, and TensorFlow Playground. Students learned how computers can recognize patterns and make decisions.
The first day covered AI basics – what it is, its history, and simple machine learning concepts like decision trees. On day two, students learned about neural networks and GPT-style language models. They also talked about important questions like whether AI will take people's jobs and how to make sure AI is used fairly.
The bootcamp kept things fun with Kahoot quizzes and lots of discussion. Students debated whether AI is dangerous and shared their thoughts on how it might change the job market.
All students who completed the program received certificates and community service hours. More importantly, they got hands-on experience with AI tools and a better understanding of technology that's changing the world.
The bootcamp is part of Aiphabet's mission to make AI education available to more young people, especially those who might not otherwise get to learn about it. To learn more about Aiphabet's programs and online learning platform, visit www.aiphabet.org.
